Just after the end of World War II a secondary school was started in Lubartow. At first it was in the same building as an elementary school but since the school year 1960/1961 it has been located in its own building, at 16 Chopina Street. On 16th April 1998 the school was named after Earl Pawel Karol Sanguszko ( 1651-1684 ). The earl, his ancestors and family contributed a lot to the development of our town. On that day we had a great honour to have with us Earl Pawel Sanguszko, a descendent of the Sanguszko family, his mother and other respectable guests.

Nowadays in our school there are 789 students ( aged 16-19 ) who learn in 28 forms. Our students have got a great variety of classes to choose from. We offer classes with an extended program of languages, maths and IT, maths and physics, maths and geography, biology and chemistry or Polish, history and social studies. Foreign languages include: English, German, French and Russian. After finishing the three-year course of learning in our school, pupils take matura exam ( they can take it on two levels – an easier one or a more difficult one ) whose results are a pass to higher education.

Our pupils participate in various olympiads, competitions and sports events and have had lots of successes. During the previous school year our students were among winners and finalists of The History Olympiad, The Polish Language Olympiad, an art competition, a literary competition, a geography competition, a competition for ‘young MPs’, and others.

Our pupils took part and had successes in sports events ( football, handball, volleyball, basketball ). In September 2009 we are going to start a Comenius project “Castles: a precious historical heritage” co-ordinated by an Italian school. The other participants are schools from Portugal and Turkey.

SEPTEMBER 2009

Students from six classes started gathering information about twelve Polish castles. Helped by teachers of history, geography, history of culture and English language, they prepared detailed descriptions of the castles in two languages - Polish and English. In the meantime, some students from forms 1 and 3 started work on two other projects- a historical one and a culinary one. All these three projects are an excellent opportunity to learn more about both Polish and European culture and about European cuisine.

OCTOBER 2009 Gallery

From 19th to 23rd October three students ( Adrianna Zyga, Kamil Mitura, Piotr Sajda ) together with Małgorzata Frydrych ( a teacher of English ) went to Catania on Sicily to pay a visit in ISTITUTO TECNICO INDUSTRIALE “CANNIZZARO”. Together with Italian, Portuguese and Turkish teachers and students we participated in lots of events and activities. We presented our schools and towns and we worked on the material about the castles we had brought with us. It was also a great chance to practise English. These were unforgettable moments and we are still in touch with the participants of the project. They all turned out to be fantastic friends. Now we are working on the second stage of the project and looking forward to our next meeting, which will take place in Portugal in May 2010.

March 2010

On 17th March 2010 was the day when we joined the Irish to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. Students from classes Ia, Ib, Ic, Id, If, IIa, IIb, IIc, IId, IIf prepared multimedia presentations about Great Britain. The topics included: History, Festivals and Celebrations, Everyday Life, Film and Music. All the presentations were of great informative value and it was a great pleasure to watch them. The students who had made the best presentation in each category were presented with some “sweet prizes”.

In April there will be a school contest about Great Britain. You are welcome to join in!

April 2010

On 26 April 2010 students from seven classes volunteered to take part in a school quiz about Great Britain. Each class was represented by a three-person group. The quiz consisted of five parts. Students were shown multimedia presentations with fifteen questions in each category. The presentation about history was prepared by Mrs Oksana Grzeszczak, about music by Mrs Alina Voloshyna and Mrs Małgorzata Frydrych prepared three parts of the quiz: about British festivals and celebrations, about everyday life in Britain and about British films.

The participants were supported and cheered by students from their classes. Three best groups received sweets as prizes.

May 2010

A visit to Escola Profissional de Arqueologia in Marco de Canaveses in Portugal lasted from 24th to 28th May 2010. Four our students accompanied by the school headmistress Anna Wójtowicz and a teacher of English Małgorzata Frydrych spent a wonderful time visiting some of Portuguese historic places and working on the material about castles with students and teachers from all the schools participating in the project. We were taken to a picturesque region of vineyards along the Douro River, to the towns which were important in history and development of Portugal – Guimarães, Coimbra, Braga and Porto. We were shown the school and the area around it. Never before had we seen a school with classrooms in many different stone cottages with its own excavation area.
We were happy to meet some of the teachers and students we had already worked with in Catania in Sicily.
Yes, it was an unforgettable visit. Now we are looking forward to seeing our partners in Lubartów, Poland in October 2010.
